wrtc.adv.requestBandwidth is a number property to set maximum bandwidth of the videostream received by the client.
Lower video bandwidth means lower video quality.
wrtc.adv.requestBandwidth controls what maximum video bandwidth your client will request other end of a call should send.
Video bandwidth is monitored and controlled by the browsers, if connection has low bandwidth they decrease video bandwidth automatically to avoid dropped frames. In prefect conditions the maximum video bandwidth transmitted by web browsers is usually 2000 kilobits per second (kbs).
Please notice wrtc.adv.requestBandwidth is a request - browser can decide to ignore it. It is also the maximum bandwidth - on connections with lower bandwidth the video transmitted will also have lower bandwidth.
Number, max number of kbps video bandwidth.
If undefined browser default is used, usually 2 Mbps (2000 kbps).
Most browsers transmit video in 2 Mbps (2000 kbps) if wrtc.adv.requestBandwidth is undefined.
You can cut video bandwidth in half, to 1 Mbps (1000 kbps) by setting wrtc.adv.requestBandwidth=1000 without any noticeable degradation in image quality.
Once video bandwidth has been lowered to around 600 kbps you will start to notice severe image quality degradation.
undefined
Usually you set wrtc.adv.requestBandwidth once in wrtc.init() and avoid changing it later.
But if you for some reason need to change wrtc.adv.requestBandwidth call wrtc.changeMedia() after.
Changing the value in the middle of a call will unfortunately result in a new renegotiation between the clients that takes time and interrupts call briefly. It should therefore be avoided.
If you know other end of call has set its wrtc.videoBandwidth value setting wrtc.adv.requestBandwidth is not required.
Request other end to send maximum video bandwidth to 1.2 Mbps (1200 kbps):
wrtc.adv.requestBandwidth=1200;
